Our Interior Painting Process
From start to finish, you can depend on CertaPro Painters® to deliver on our promise of care, conduct, quality, value and certainty. This is what defines professionalism and an extraordinary painting experience.
Step 1 - Color Consultation (Complimentary!)
Our designer, Kate Rafoth, helps you choose colors that work with your existing furnishings. Kate has an education in interior design and worked as Sherwin Williams’ color expert prior to working with us. Kate can help you narrow down colors to a few paint choices that will work well with your furnishings. She will never push you into colors you’re not comfortable with, but will help expand your options to colors you might not have chosen without guidance.

Step 2 - Protect the Area
On your project start day, the crew will begin by prepping the interior of the home to protect surfaces while the project is under way. Furniture will be moved away from the walls, tarps laid down around the perimeter, and masking tape will be applied to edges and trim. We also protect floors with drop cloths to make sure paint does not get on the floor and equipment does not scratch the surfaces.

Step 3 - Prepare Surfaces
The crew will next prepare walls and ceilings by filling in holes, cracks, or other types of damage prior to painting. This step may also include removing wallpaper or old failing paint. Rough areas are sanded to smooth out the surface. Once complete the walls are a smooth surface ready to be painted.

Step 4 - Apply New Paint
Once all surfaces are prepped, repaired, and primed, the painting process can begin. We use premium quality paint products for smooth and long lasting results. Interior walls have a range of finish options including flat, matte, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss, and high gloss each with their own pros and cons. During your initial estimate appointment our project estimator will help you determine the best finish for your project. Our crews work quickly and efficiently and deliver consistent professional results.

Step 5 - Clean Up
After painting, the paint is left to dry for a few hours, you will not need to leave the home while paint is drying. The crew will use this time to clean the area of tools, tarps, tape, and other jobsite equipment. We sweep the floors and carpets and return furniture to its original position.

Step 6 - Walk Through Inspection
You will have an opportunity to look over the completed work on your own, then be walked around with a CertaPro Painters Job Site Supervisor to review the completed project. This is an opportunity to give feedback, or point out areas that need touching up. We take pride in leaving every customer with an extraordinary experience, and will work with you to correct any problems identified.

In addition to painting, we can help with a variety of interior projects for your home. See below for an overview of our interior service lines.

Frequently Asked Questions About Interior Painting Projects
How soon can you paint my home’s interior?
It turns out we get this question all the time, so we post our current painting timeframes here. Generally we paint customers on a first come, first served basis (usually within 2-3 weeks of receiving your deposit), but we understand that sometimes things come up and you need to have your interior painting completed by a deadline. Let us know your deadline and most often we can meet it.
How much will it cost to paint my home’s interior?
Here’s our interior pricing guide – these prices are average prices and once we get to your specific interior project, we’ll be able to give you a firm quote. If you’d like a firm quote, you can schedule one here.
How long will it take to paint my home’s interior?
The time it takes to paint your home’s interior depends on the size of the painting project and the size of the crew we put on your project. In general, our average crew of 3 painters can paint two 12 x 12 rooms (walls and trim) per day. Because we have both large and small painting crews, we can put a larger crew on a project if you need it done faster.
Here’s a general idea of how an interior project progresses:
- Painters move the furniture to the center of room(s) and drape the furniture with plastic.
- Colors sampled and finalized, and wall preparation begins.
- Holes in drywall, plaster or horsehair plaster are repaired and sanded.
- Wood trim is sanded
- Primer is applied either as a spot prime on areas that were repaired, or as a full prime when changing wall color drastically.
- 1-2 coats of a premium quality paint are applied to walls and trim.
- Touch ups are done after customer inspection is complete.
What’s included in my CertaPro Painters’ interior painting quote?
- All labor
- All materials
- All paint
- Free in-home Color Consultation to get the colors “just right”
