Hanson, known for its lakes and rivers has been booming with a hot real estate market! Hanson homeowners have unique painting needs because of the area’s harsh New England climate, and we apply products that can help prolong the life of your home’s exterior – no matter if it’s wood, vinyl, aluminum siding, brick, or stucco.
Recommended paint and stain products for your Hanson home’s exterior:
For trim, we like Sherwin Williams Resilience and for wood clapboards, we often specify Sherwin Williams Woodscapes solid or semi-solid stain on Hanson exteriors. Hanson homes should be painted every 5-7 years with a possible maintenance coat applied at year 3 for added protection. Because deck and porch floors tend to be more susceptible to foot traffic abuse, water puddling, and harsh sunlight, we recommend maintaining your exposed porch or deck floors every 2 years to keep them protected.
We can also help you choose exterior colors that are historically accurate to the colors of the South Shore of yesteryear.
Carpentry on Hanson Homes
Many Hanson homes have some wood that may have deteriorated over time. We have carpentry teams on staff to repair anything from minor trim (with wood or PVC) to full shingle or clapboard replacement. This means one-stop shopping for both carpentry and painting, which our busy Clients appreciate. When we give you a quote for painting, we’re happy to also quote your carpentry as well.
Painting Aluminum and Vinyl Siding on Hanson Homes:
Some Hanson homes are wrapped in aluminum or vinyl siding, which could experience fading or chalking. Chalking is a sign that your home needs to be painted and can be tested by simply rubbing your hand along your siding – if chalk appears on your hands, your home needs a coat of paint to stay protected. CertaPro Painters’ can apply products designed to adhere nicely to aluminum and vinyl. Since both vinyl and aluminum surfaces are more stable than wood, the paint finish holds up for years. Painting aluminum or vinyl siding is a cost-effective way to give your house a completely new look.
Painting older that contain Lead Paint:
Hanson homes built before 1978 may contain lead paint on either the exterior, interior, or both. Our painters are EPA RRP certified to safely prepare and paint your older home. It is the law in Massachusetts that all painters working on a home with lead paint be EPA RRP certified. If you are getting drastically different pricing and your home contains lead paint, the lower-priced painter may not be lead-certified.
Does my exterior need painting?
Paint tends to “wear away” and become less protective over time. In fact, it’s not always clear if your exterior needs painting because your house may look just fine.
If you can rub your hand against your exterior paint and have some paint come off on your hand, like chalk, your paint is no longer protecting your home.
No matter the style of the home, we can work with your vision or give you some ideas of our own to make your Hanson home look fresh and modern. Our free color consultant has experience helping you choose colors that blend with your current furnishings so don’t have to buy a roomful of furniture after you paint.
Some newer and remodeled Hanson homes have open-floor plans. This requires a cohesive paint palette that carries through from room to room without looking choppy. Working with our free, in-home designer is a part of every painting project we do and is worth the few hours to get the paint colors right.
Older Hanson homes have rooms that are nicely delineated by walls and doors and can handle different colors that are cohesive but fit the individual use of the room. For example, a study with doors can handle a deep burgundy or dark brown wall color, even when the rest of the home remains a neutral grey.
