Protect and Refresh Your Brick Home in the South Shore & Boston Area

Brick homes are a timeless feature throughout New England and, prized for their classic charm, strength, and minimal upkeep. However, even the most durable brick exteriors can be affected by our region’s harsh and ever-changing weather. From icy coastal winds and Nor’easters in the winter to humid, rainy summers, your home’s brickwork faces year-round wear and tear.

Over time, UV rays, moisture, and freeze-thaw cycles can cause brick to fade, discolor, or weaken. Without proper protection, porous brick can absorb water, leading to cracks, staining, mold growth, and even structural issues.

At CertaPro Painters of the South Shore and Boston, we specialize in professional brick painting and staining services tailored to New England homes. Whether you’re aiming for a crisp, modern painted look or prefer to enhance the natural tone of your brick with a breathable stain, our experienced team will help you achieve a result that’s both beautiful and built to withstand the local climate.

Staining your brick home – it’ll look like paint, but be much more breathable.

Masonry stain can be used as an alternative to paint, and this is our preferred option unless you require waterproofing.

Stain allows for a painted look (you won’t be able to tell the difference), but allows the brick to expand and contract more easily with temperature changes. It is much more breathable and permeable than paint, so you’re not trapping moisture that could lead to the bricks failing.

Staining brick is a great option if you want to retain the natural texture and character of your home’s brick while still enhancing its color and adding protection.

Benefits of Staining Brick:

  • Preserves the natural look and texture of brick
  • Penetrates the surface, allowing the brick to breathe and reducing moisture-related issues
  • Lower maintenance than paint and may last 10+ years with proper care

Things to Consider:

  • Stain works best on untreated, porous brick. If your bricks have already been sealed, you’ll need to remove the sealant before staining.
  • Color options are more limited than paint but offer a more natural finish.
  • Always test a small area first to ensure compatibility and desired results.
  • Adding color to brick makes your home less industrial-looking:
  • Over the years, we’ve added color to brick homes to calm the industrial look of them.

Consider this example:

Blue ranch home with brick
Staining the brick on this ranch the same color as the siding would calm the visual overload of the exterior.
Light blue ranch home with both siding and brick painted the same color
Once the brick is stained the same color as the siding the visual overload is gone.
