We love painting in Pembroke!

You’ll see our CertaPro trucks and lawn signs all over Pembroke. We love that Pembroke is so nicely zoned to blend new neighborhoods into the historic feel of the town. After painting hundreds of Pembroke homes in the area, we’ve learned a few things that will help you paint your Pembroke home.

We paint all styles of Pembroke homes:

We’ve painted many styles of homes in Pembroke, from colonials, capes, and ranches, and converted summer cottages to contemporaries and new construction homes. We have the know-how to advise you on paint colors that fit with Pembroke’s historic heritage while still being unique.

Exterior painting of Pembroke Homes

Lots of Pembroke residents in antique homes like to match the original paint color of the home. Even though your antique Pembroke home might be faded, we can work with the Pembroke Historical Society to restore your exterior to its original color. Here are some of the historic colors we paint in Pembroke and all around the South Shore.

Because Pembroke is near the coast, coastal storms often wear away at the paint coatings on your home. This means we use special paint and stain products on Pembroke homes to give Pembroke houses extra protection from the elements. It’s also important to keep your gutters clean and free-flowing so ice dams don’t develop and cause leaks, interior stains, and drywall damage.

Many Pembroke homes are made of wood, and our carpenters often replace rotting wood before we paint. In fact, over 50% of Pembroke homes require some kind of carpentry, shingle & window sill repairs, or trim & clapboard replacement before we even pick up a paintbrush. If you are painting yourself, you never want to paint over rotted wood. Here’s a guide to fixing rotted wood on your home.

Cedar shingles are prevalent in Pembroke and most Pembroke homes have shingles on at least a side or two. Cedar shingles offer a classic New England look, and some of our Pembroke customers like their shingles to be gray and weather. We can also apply a semi-solid or solid stain if you don’t want your shingles to weather over time.

The black on or behind your shingles is likely mold and mildew. We are able to remove the mold using a mold-killing detergent in our power washer. There is no guarantee that mold won’t grow back, so getting sunlight on your shingles is imperative to slow down the growth. This might also mean you have to trim your trees to prevent lots of shade on the shingled sides of your Pembroke home.

Because Pembroke’s proximity to the coast and homes can be affected by harsh weather and the salt air of the nearby Atlantic Ocean, we recommend painting Pembroke homes approximately every 5-7 years. We often apply a maintenance coat of paint every three years in between major paint jobs to help protect your home.

Pembroke business owners – We have a separate Commercial Painting Department:

We’re proud to keep a 2-mile segment clean on Route 3 South in Pembroke since 2008!

Pembroke businesses, medical offices, religious facilities, restaurants, property managers, shops, and facility managers have worked with CertaPro Painters for years.

And if your Pembroke business needs to remain open while we’re painting or doing carpentry, we offer night and weekend work at no extra charge – this way, your business is not disrupted.

Our commercial department digs in to understand what’s important to your business or the residents in your community and matches the paint and application to those needs.  For example, we can use scuff-resistant paint in high-traffic areas like lobbies and microbicidal paints that actually kill germs in restrooms and medical offices.

How do I know if my Pembroke exterior needs painting?

Lots of Pembroke homes look fine but need a maintenance coat of paint or stain to remain protected from our harsh New England winters. If you’re unsure if you need to paint your exterior, take our 20-second quiz to find out.

Giving Back to the Pembroke Community:

We feel it’s important to give back to the Pembroke community, and since 1998, we have donated to the Pembroke Library, as well as sponsored and cleaned the highway on Route 3 in Pembroke since 2008.

The Pembroke Library

Interior painting to Pembroke homes:

Many Pembroke customers love to entertain, and their open-floor plan homes reflect this. Painting a home with an open floor plan presents the issue of where one color begins, and another ends since there are often no walls to separate the rooms. We have a designer on staff that works with our customers after they choose us to paint. This free service helps ensure your open floor plan doesn’t have competing colors that make the space choppy. Usually, our designer can choose one color in a few different tones, to keep the space feeling open while still defining the rooms.

Older Pembroke homes often have horsehair plaster walls. Our crews are experienced in repairing horsehair plaster before we paint.

Many older homes also have nicely separated first-floor rooms which allow for more of a variety of colors. Again, our color consultant is trained to work with your taste and current furnishings to give you more confidence in choosing your final colors without pushing you into colors that are “not you.”

Our color consultant is happy to work with your children and teens to choose a wall color that works for both of you. We understand that this can be tricky and work to strike a nice balance.

If your Pembroke home has wallpaper that needs removal, we can handle that too.

Commercial Painting in Pembroke, Massachusetts:

While Pembroke is mostly a residential community, businesses, offices, churches, and retail shops can use our commercial painting
department to help freshen up their spaces.

In the past, we’ve painted the interior and exterior at the Pembroke Library – next time you’re there, ask the staff how we did.

If your Pembroke business or property needs to be open during the painting, we can paint at night or on the weekends at no extra charge.

Pembroke Wood Repairs and Carpentry ServicesCarpenter measuring wood with electric saw in background

Most Pembroke homes are constructed of wood and many need wood repair of their trim, clapboards, decks, porches or shingles before we paint. To offer one-stop shopping, we have carpenters on staff who can fix the rotted wood before we start your painting project. This means that whether you need a single rotted shingle replaced or an entire side of clapboards, we can handle the carpentry part of the project before we start painting.

Lots of Pembroke homes have cedar shingles

Most Pembroke houses have shingles on at least one side of the home. It is important to maintain the cedar by power washing it every few years. The black and dark green you notice on your shingles is likely “plant growth” (mold and mildew) and it’s important that you remove it when you see it. You can prevent mold and mildew from growing by cutting back overgrown plants that shade your home to allow the sun to shine on that side of your house.

We are happy to powerwash your home using a mold-killing bleach to make your shingles look better. For even more protection, we suggest a solid or semi-transparent stain for your shingles.

Photo left:  These shingles were treated with a solid stain in Duxbury over 6 years ago, and they are still in good shape today!

Paint recommendations for Pembroke homes

All paint and materials are included in our quotes. We often choose a solid stain (we like Benjamin Moore Arborcoat) for clapboards to provide protection from New England winters to Pembroke homes. Stain penetrates the wood, while paint sits on top of the wood. For exterior trim, we usually specify Sherwin Williams Emerald. It’s important that you use a high quality paint since most of the cost of painting your home is the labor. For interiors we love Sherwin William Duration Home as it stands up to traffic for a long time. As the largest residential painting company on the South Shore, we pass our fantastic pricing onto you.
