10 Universally appealing paint colors – stop going crazy choosing colors and start right here.

Posted on January 23, 2023

Finding the perfect paint color is so anxiety-producing that many people freeze, give up or choose paint colors haphazardly.
You’ll live with your paint colors for years, so we want to ensure you get the color right the first time.  There’s nothing worse than thinking you’re getting the perfect color but getting “almost the right color.” Let’s ensure you don’t kick yourself when looking at your paint color on the walls or exterior.
If you don’t know where to start, our designer Kate has compiled this list of universally appealing colors that work in most homes.
Working with Kate to choose colors is a free service to all our customers (and why many people choose us as their painter).  Kate works with you at home until you feel the colors are perfect.

The following are Kate’s recommendations as her “go-to” Sherwin-Williams colors.

Most of these paint colors look great in many interior and exterior situations:

Place the color samples near your trim for the truest look at how the paint color will look on the whole wall.
  • White – Extra White SW7006 (our favorite trim color)
  • Cream – Creamy SW7012
  • Tan – Nantucket Dune SW7527
  • Warm Gray – Passive SW706
  • Cool Gray – Gray Screen SW7071
  • Sage – Oyster Bay SW6206
  • Navy – Naval SW6244
  • Cranberry – Borscht SW7578
  • Forest Green – Rookwood Shutter Green SW2809
  • Blueish, Greenish Gray – Sea Salt SW6204 (looks great in nurseries and bathrooms)

One more secret to getting the perfect paint color:

Start with Farrow and Ball brand paint colors.  Farrow and Ball has narrowed their whole color palette to about 150 great colors.  And yes, Farrow and Ball is expensive paint (about $125/gallon), but it’s a cinch to match their colors to Benjamin Moore for less money.
To match a Farrow & Ball color to Benjamin Moore paint, visit Curry Ace Hardware in Quincy or Hanover – in our opinion Curry Hardware is the best place to match paint on the South Shore.
