Serving Marion for over 25 years!
Because Marion is on the coast, exteriors generally need to be painted every 5-8 years. If your home is directly on the water, you may need to add a maintenance coat earlier because of the harsh coastal climate and salt air.
Check out our very own color fan deck: “Colors of the South Shore” which features our compilation of exterior paint colors often seen exteriors in historic New England towns.

Marion, MA exterior painting tips:
Harsh New England weather: Marion gets battered by our harsh winters and hot summers. Because of Marion’s climate, we use specify painting and staining products to help combat the wear and tear on your home’s exterior.
Most Marion exteriors are painted every 6-8 years to help protect the wood. If you don’t know when your home was last painted, take our 20-second quiz to see if it needs painting.
Carpentry:
Rotted wood shingles, trim, and clapboards are of particular concern for Marion’s homes. Wood rot is common in our harsh winters, coastal storm damage, and hot summers. If you see rotted wood on your home’s exterior, replace it as soon as possible. You don’t want water to get inside the wood and cause further damage. If you are painting the project yourself, never paint over rotted wood – the paint will fail quickly. The carpentry professionals we send to your home are trained to repair wood rot on trim, clapboards, windows, shingles and more.
Cedar Shingle Maintenance: Cedar shingles are durable and impact-resistant material, making them popular in Marion. Cedar shingles often cover whole homes or, at the very least, one or two sides of Marion’s exteriors.
Many residents prefer to let their shingles “gray” over time, and you’ll see this “Nantucket” look throughout town. Other residents prefer to coat their shingles with a semi-solid or solid stain to protect them and prevent graying.
Because cedar shingles tend to grow mold and mildew, you may see some black color on your shingles or behind them (the black is an indication of plant growth). Power washing with a mold-killing detergent will wash off the plants, but if your shingles are in a damp or shady area, the mold or mildew will grow back. Trimming your trees to reduce the shade will help slow mildew growth on your shingles.
