Anti-graffiti paint: Wash away graffiti with plain tap water.

Posted on September 20, 2022

CertaPro Painters can help you solve your graffiti problems by applying an anti-graffiti paint coating to your graffiti-prone areas.

Anti-graffiti paint, also known as graffiti-resistant paint or graffiti deterrent paint, is a type of paint applied to surfaces to prevent graffiti from being easily applied and to make graffiti removal easier. It is commonly used on buildings, walls, and other structures to protect them from graffiti vandalism.

One of the primary benefits of using anti-graffiti paint is its ability to make graffiti removal easier. When graffiti is applied to a surface treated with anti-graffiti paint, it is easier to remove because it forms a protective barrier over the surface. This means graffiti can be removed with water without damaging the paint or surface.  It also means you won’t have to call in a specialist to remove the graffiti – you’ll be able to do it yourself with just some water and elbow grease.

Another benefit of anti-graffiti paint is its ability to prevent graffiti from being easily applied in the first place. Some types of anti-graffiti paint are formulated to make it difficult for graffiti to adhere to the surface, meaning that graffiti artists are less likely to target a surface treated with this type of paint.

What is anti-graffiti paint?

Anti-graffiti paint creates a non-stick surface when it dries.

Once painted, graffiti from spray paint and permanent markers won’t stick to the Anti-Graffiti paint.

If graffiti occurs, simply pressure wash it or hand-wipe it off with water. No solvents or abrasives are needed to remove the graffiti.

I have graffiti already – can you remove my existing graffiti?

Here we’re removing existing graffiti before we coat this Weymouth building with anti-graffiti paint.

Yes, we always remove graffiti from South Shore, Plymouth, and Boston area properties using solvents.

Once you remove the current graffiti, we can apply a coat of anti-graffiti paint, so you don’t have to call us back.

Which anti-graffiti paint should I use on my Boston building?

We like Sherwin Williams’ Anti- Graffiti coating because it can be removed from the same spot repeatedly without needing reapplication.  It’s a low-VOC formula, so it will not produce many smelly fumes and meets strict environmental standards.  It is also extremely weather-resistant – important for Boston businesses with exterior areas battered by our harsh winter climate.

Because this paint doesn’t erode, it will stand up to dozens of cleanings, which saves our commercial painting clients money because they can easily clean the graffiti themselves.

Where should I use anti-graffiti paint?

You can apply anti-graffiti paint to any place prone to vandalism and graffiti damage, including:

Indoors you can use anti-graffiti paints in:

3 restrooms with clean walls
Anti Graffiti paint allows you to wipe graffiti and permanent marker right off your restroom walls.

Restrooms

Lockerrooms

Schools

Outdoors you can use anti-graffiti paints on:

Fences

Concrete

Brick

Steel

Wood

Municipal Buildings

Bridges

T Stations and Subways

How is anti-graffiti paint applied?

Anti-graffiti paint applies in one coat and dries quickly.

It can be applied with a brush, roller, or sprayer.

Exterior paint can only be applied when it’s warm enough outside – typically between March and mid-November on the South Shore and Boston areas.

Are there different types of anti-graffiti paint?

Yes, there are several types of anti-graffiti paint available, each with its own unique properties and benefits.

Some types of anti-graffiti paint are designed to be applied as a clear coat over the top of existing paint, while others are applied as standalone paint. Some anti-graffiti paints are also formulated to resist specific types of graffiti, such as spray paint or marker pens.

How long does anti-graffiti paint last?

We like Sherwin Williams’ anti-graffiti paint, which has a service life of about ten years, according to the manufacturer.

Since the Boston climate is so harsh, ten years sounds a bit long to us – in the Boston area, you may need to recoat after seven years.
