Scott Air Force Base is a United States Air Force Base in St. Clair County, IL near Belleville and O’Fallon. The base was established in 1917 as Scott Field, one of thirty-two Air Service training camps created after the US entered World War I.
When the U.S. Air Force became a separate service in 1947, Scott Field was re-designated as Scott Air Force Base.
The base currently employs 13,000 people, 5,100 civilians with 5,500 active-duty Air Force, and an additional 2,400 Air National Guard and Reserve personnel and is the largest employer in the area. In 2018, Scott Air Force Base was named the second-best place to be stationed by Air Force Times.
