What Do I Need To Know Before Painting?

If you’re getting ready to start thinking about a painting project, you probably have a lot of questions. Below are some of the most common questions we get from customers.

How much will it cost to paint my house? Anywhere from $350.00 – $10,000.00 or more. Depends on how many rooms, what we are painting, repairs and paint selection.

Is there anything that can change the cost of a project after a customer receives a quote? Yes, any change in the scope of work. Added or change of colors, any accent walls, time and material on repairs and wallpaper removal, number of coats of paint.

How much paint do you need to paint a home? Interior: To paint a 12 x 15 room with 8-foot ceilings you will need 1 gallon to paint the ceiling and 2 gallons to paint the walls with two coats each.

When is the best time to paint? Interior – anytime. Exterior – when the temperature is 45 degrees and rising and not below 35 degrees at night and moisture on the surface is 14% or below.

How often should people paint their homes? Interiors are usually painted every 8 years. We have some customers that paint every 4 years to change colors. Exterior painting for decks is 2 to 5 years depending on the stain used. Fences are 5 to 8 years. Exteriors of homes are usually 10 to 15 years between coats. Things that impact the decision to paint are color choices, weather and a previous paint job.

How long does it take to paint a home? Anywhere from one day to a week is our range, depending on the size of the job and crew.

Can the painters work alone in my house? Yes, several customers allow us to come into the house when we they are at work.

How many paint colors are included in your typical proposal? Usually 3 colors are allowed on our interior proposals of $1,500 or more. Extra colors and accent walls are $50.00 each.

Is there anything the homeowner should do to prep for your crew to arrive? Exterior: Trim away trees, bushes and tall grass that may contact the house. Interior: Remove curtains, blinds, pictures, and small fragile items. Make sure the pets are in a safe place.
