Concrete Staining and Epoxy Floor Covering

The process of concrete staining adds a permanent color to the surface, which bonds tightly so you won’t have to worry about peeling or chipping. The end result is a beautiful translucent hue that enriches the look and feel of any space, indoor or out.

Many property or homeowners choose to epoxy their floors for a variety of reasons. When the epoxy is applied to a concrete floor, it provides a clear, durable, stain-resistant finish that protects the surface. It also repels water and reduces slipperiness, perfect for high-traffic areas.

Both residential and commercial properties can benefit from the beauty of concrete staining and the protection of epoxy. Concrete staining is especially popular in these areas:

  • Sidewalks
  • Walkway
  • Driveway
  • Basement floor
  • Garage floor
  • Patio
  • Pool deck
  • Courtyard
  • Showroom floor

The Epoxy Floor Coating Process

The video below covers the process for installing an epoxy floor. The process and products used can vary depending on the projects needs and scope, however this video gives a good general overview of what to expect.

The Epoxy Floor Process

1) Floor prep – floors are prepped with specialized equipment, this step can involve grinding the surface.
2) Repairs – cracks and pits are patched and repaired to make an even surface.
3) Cleanup – A round of cleanup is done to remove any dust or partials from the grinding process.
4) Product prep – The floor coating products are mixed and applied to the floor
5) Broadcast chips – an optional chip coating is placed down on top of the wet floor to give texture and color to the surface
6) Scrape down – excess chips are scraped off and cleaned
7) Clear coat – the final step is to apply a durable clear coat on top

Epoxy Finish Services

A clear epoxy coating is usually applied over concrete floors to provide a durable, stain-resistant finish. An epoxy treatment is fast and easy, providing a hard and durable surface that can withstand spills, stains, and heavy traffic. In residential applications with proper care, epoxy floors can last decades. Commercial concrete floor finishes in high-traffic and industrial areas all depend on exactly what was applied and what conditions it is used for. Both residential or commercial epoxy flooring surfaces are easy to clean, water-resistant, and low maintenance.

As expert concrete floor coating contractors, we will help you choose the best epoxy product, colors, and more to create a beautiful, long-lasting finish.

Our concrete floor coating contractors will thoroughly clean the concrete surface, removing all grease, dirt, and grit. After patching and repairing any surface chips or cracks as outlined in your customized proposal, the team will use equipment to create a slightly porous surface.

We then spread the epoxy mixture on the surface and allow it to dry. When applied by a CertaPro Painters® epoxy finish services team, epoxy floors add beauty and brightness to any space that needs a new look.

Common Questions About Epoxy Flooring Projects

How much does epoxy flooring cost?

Pricing will vary depending on the size of the area, the type of epoxy used, and the labor rates in your area. Set up a free estimate appointment with your local independently owned and operated CertaPro Painters® franchise to get accurate pricing information for your unique project.

Are epoxy floors slippery?

Non-slip coatings are optional. An epoxy floor without chips can be slippery when wet, so most applications include anti-slip steps like chips or texturing of the epoxy for safety.

How long does it take to install epoxy flooring for homes?

The duration of the project will depend on the size of the area and the product used. Some floor coating products can be installed in one day. Most standard residential projects can be completed within 1-3 days.

How long does it take for epoxy floors to dry?

The cure time will vary depending on the epoxy product used. Some products require as little as 24 hours cure time. If you are getting epoxy installed in your garage, we recommend waiting at least 48 hours before driving on the surface.

What colors are available for epoxy floor coatings?

There are a wide variety of color options available. Talk with your local independently owned CertaPro Painters® franchise location to get samples and options.
