2019 Home Color Trends Sherwin Williams Says Will Be Hot

Posted on September 12, 2018

As a homeowner, you carefully weigh each investment you make in your house. You’re always thinking about your own comfort and that of your family, but you also consider what will raise the value of your home, or help protect your investment for years to come.

The fact is, these decisions aren’t just investments in your brick-and-mortar home — they’re also investments in your future. One of the smartest (and easiest) investments you can make is in the color of your home. For both the interior and exterior, you want something that will make you and your family feel more at home, your guests feel welcome, and, if you are planning to put your home on the market within the next several years, catch a buyer’s eye.

Exterior Painting: How To Pick The Right Color

Whether you’re prepping to sell or just want to update the look of your home, you need to do some research. What’s in right now? How can you tell what’s a flash-in-the-pan trend, and what will endure for the next several years? While you obviously want to choose a color you like, you’ll also want to think about the overall theme and feel of your home. What surrounds your home in terms of landscaping and topography? And what are your neighbors doing?

Don’t worry, we did a bunch of the heavy lifting already! Sherwin-Williams recently put out a list of the most anticipated 2019 home color palettes and we’ve adapted them into exterior paint schemes below.

“Protecting your home with high-quality painting services is a must for any homeowner. What’s exciting about the Sherwin-Williams Colormix Forecast is that homeowners can look at the colors of the future when starting their painting project today,” says Bruce Schmidt, Chief Brand Officer, CertaPro Painters®, Ltd. “If you’re looking to make a change, look at the shades of colors that your neighbors have selected and avoid making the same choice. By playing off the colors that surround your home – choosing complimentary colors – you’ll see your home pop.”

2019 House Colors We Really Like

The Sherwin-Williams Colormix Forecast 2019 is separated into several different themes to choose from. Your CertaPro Painters® professional will help you make the best choice for your unique home, but here are some great options from the list to get the conversation going:

Shapeshifter: A variety of blues, from pale Elation to deep Dark Night, along with Extra White and a gold hue called Nugget, is perfect for more creative types who want to get in early on a lasting trend.

Wanderer: Those who prefer natural, neutral colors might prefer the sun-washed shades of Cavern Clay, Dark Clove, and Caramelized, which are perfectly set off by a medium blue color called Distance.

Aficionado: If “timeless” and “nostalgic” describe your style, then the elegance of Merlot, Wheat Penny, and Grandiose might be perfect for the exterior of your home. Use a bold Charcoal Blue on your front door or garage doors to make this palette pop.

Enthusiast: Does your perfect world teem with colors, and could your interior decorating style be classified as “more is more”? If so, consider bright takes on primary shades such as Positive Red, Gold Crest, and Oceanside on your outdoor surfaces.

Naturalist: Nature lovers who appreciate subtlety might do well choosing Shiitake, Primavera, or Misty as the main color of their home while accenting with something like Dard Hunter Green or Eros Pink. The Naturalist palette is understated, elegant, and reminiscent of your favorite delicate garden.

Raconteur: Those who enjoy pouring over both literal and figurative tapestries might enjoy the palette that includes Rustic Red, Poised Taupe, and Black Bean. A touch of Orchid or Porcelain can add depth and interest to your outdoor living spaces.

Having palettes put together by the Sherwin-Williams color experts is a great way to dip your toes into the future of design while holding onto the tradition and quality that Sherwin-Williams is well-known for.
