Full Exterior Repaint with Color Change

Project Involvement

This project involved a full four-sided exterior repaint, including siding, trim, doors, windows, gutters, downspouts, and architectural features.

Work included thorough surface preparation across all elevations, followed by priming and application of a new cohesive color scheme. The project required coordination across multiple surface types and detailed elements, from porch columns to dormers and the home’s cupola.

Project Challenges

One of the primary challenges was the level of preparation required across weathered siding, particularly along rooflines and the undersides of boards where exposure had led to visible substrate. All loose and flaking paint was hand scraped, bare areas were spot primed, and nails were re-driven before surfaces were sealed and coated. This level of preparation is critical to ensuring long-term adhesion and preventing premature paint failure.

The home’s wood windows required detailed attention, including hand scraping, spot priming, and a two-tone finish. Each window was carefully painted with white panes and black frames, requiring precise masking and clean, consistent cut lines across the entire exterior.

A full color scheme change added another layer of complexity. The new white siding with black trim required careful planning to ensure consistency across all architectural features, including the dormer, chimney, cupola, porch columns, and garage.

Additionally, failed caulking throughout the home had to be removed and replaced. Proper caulking is especially important in Colorado’s climate, where moisture intrusion combined with freeze-thaw cycles can accelerate material breakdown if not properly sealed.
