Commercial Painting Project in Salt Lake City
CertaPro Painters completed seven different projects spanning from November 2019 through September 2020 for Mountain Crane. CertaPro was asked to the paint Mountain Crane’s building and equipment located on a 12-acre yard which acts as their base of operations for their fleet of cranes and engineering team. It also includes a primary facility, truck shop, and administrative offices.
The concrete block and aggregate building had not been painted since the 1960s. There was no serious damage that needed repairing, but much of the paint was nonexistant and the paint that remained was in bad shape. Mountain Crane also asked CertaPro to add their company logo to the main building and truck shop on the property. The cranes themselves also had wear and tear marks that needed to be refreshed to represent their brand well on the roads and on their job sites.
The Mountain Crane facility is located just southeast, and directly in the flight line, of the Salt Lake City International Airport. Mountain Crane specializes in full-service industrial and commercial crane rentals, wind turbines construction and maintenance, specialized hauling, and heavy transport across the United States.

Mountain Crane Building Facilities
The truck shop and main building needed to be power washed and cleaned of loose debris. It also needed to be recaulked. CertaPro applied a custom graphic to the southern side of the building, which required 8 hours to hang the stencil. Because it was previously painted, it did not require primer coats. However, CertaPro applied two topcoats. The metal surfaces of the building–including the roof–required wire brushing and two primer coats and two topcoats.
The main building of the Mountain Crane facility was built in 1960. It is made of concrete block and aggregate. CertaPro powerwashed then sprayed and back-rolled the entire exterior. CertaPro also painted the trim around the windows in black, painted 14 metal core man doors, and painted 7 garage rollup doors while closed. The front door accent wall took five hours to mask off. CertaPro painted the recessed areas black. The roof had never been painted before and was rusting. CertaPro used two coats of primer and two coats of topcoat.

Rough Terrain Vehicles
CertaPro painted a handful of vehicles for Mountain Crane, including hydraulic cranes, rough terrain cranes, forklifts, and dollies. The rough terrain 80-ton vehicle was built in 2006. It had minimal rust, but was a faded gray color and wear and tear was showing. We removed all stickers, hand scrubbed for 20 hours, and used a degreaser to prepare the surface. Then, CeratPro used a Shercryl product to get a consistent sheen on the surface. Shercryl products bond well to metal and are easy to touch up in the field when future scratches occur. We also painted the vehicle OSHA safety yellow.
Each vehicle took about 12 hours to power wash and clean out grease from the gears and moving parts. Certapro removed all stickers, scuff-sanded surfaces, and spot primed where necessary to prep any bare metal areas. To ensure durability and overall look, CertaPro finished off with applying two topcoats of the chosen color.
