Paint Colors to Boost Your Mood
Posted on July 27, 2022
It’s no surprise that our moods are affected by the things we surround ourselves with. So it makes sense that the paint colors you choose to put on your walls can inhibit or enhance your mood. When you aim to boost your mood in a room, keep in mind its intended use. For example, painting a bedroom warm color might be tempting. However, you should be cautious because warm colors can be stimulating and make it hard to rest. The same goes for painting an office a cool shade. It could cause a relaxing effect, lulling you into a trance.
Our painting professionals are here to help you find what paint colors are the best for your home. So, without further ado, here are paint colors to boost your mood with paint.
Colors of the Sky
Blue is the first color that typically comes to mind when we think about relaxation––and for good reason! A soft blue can help us sleep better and calm a busy mind. This is why we look to the sky for a bit of daydreaming or find comfort when looking out at open waters. However, nearly all the colors you see in the sky can have the same effect.
The right shades of violet, pink, white, and even yellow can create the perfect relaxing environment. This variety gives you more options when painting the entire interior of your home. No one wants their entire house to be blue. When choosing a sky color, though, remember to choose lighter colors with softer hues. If a color is too vibrant, it will have the opposite effect and end up energizing you.
Soft Cream
Cream is not just great in coffee, it’s great on walls too! The color is warm while brightening up a space. The subtle shade is slightly energizing and clean. Using an all-neutral scheme is trendy and flexible. It will literally go with anything you put into the room as well. If you want more color, it’s simple to pull in a bright accent piece. Want calmer, remove it!
Relegate black to a small side color. Don’t paint your walls a black, it’s hard to cover up and shrinks a room. It adds depth but can make a room small. Keep it in small uses and you’ll look chic and keep your room looking hip.
Colors of Nature
Just like colors from above have calming effects, so do colors in the ground. Green and browns are just as good at reducing stress and inducing relaxation as a classic blue. These colors are effective because of what they make us think of while we are surrounded by them: nature. Time in nature (or nature colors) has been proven to improve happiness and even boost reading comprehension.
Unlike sky colors, you don’t necessarily have to go pastel to get a quiet look. A dark green or brown makes for great accent colors in any room and can make the space feel more sophisticated. To make sure you like the darker color, paint a swatch on the wall you are wanting to paint and let it sit for at least 24 hours. This way, you can observe how the light hits the paint at all hours of the day.
