
Investing in the Andover Community Pays Off

Kathryn Pannell: “Andover reminds us a lot of some of the towns where we grew up. And we really like that they have such a quintessential downtown area with parks and places and things to do for families. We really are drawn to that.”
John Pannell: “One of the things that was important to us when we started our business is to get away from the corporate life. We want to be more connected to the community, connected with other small businesses. And one of the things that we have found really gratifying is that we are working with these other small businesses more so than we thought we would be. So, whether it’s White Street Paint for our Ben Moore supplier, Shoe City Hardware for our California paints, Sherwin-Williams right down the street from our office here. We know all those store managers and the regional managers by name. Sometimes they come out to our job sites. We’re hiring and working with only local painters in the area. And so that just makes us feel great that we got our kids in school, we spend a lot of time downtown after hours. But during the business week, we’re at residential customer houses, we’re at businesses, and talking with them about their paint projects and moving them forward. So, as we’re growing and we’re bringing all of our vendors along for the ride, the community’s all growing together and that feels really good.”
Kathryn Pannell: “I feel like the small town community gives you a happier vibe. Everyone seems to be really friendly, even if you don’t know them, they’ll give you a wave, say, hello. We like that a lot because unlike the city, it just feels homey, feels like a nice place to eat and play and work.”
John Pannell: “We want long-term commitment customers. We’ve heard from plenty of homeowners that, you know, they’re constantly asking us, “Hey, do you know an electrician? Do you know a plumber? Do you know this contractor? Do you know that contractor?” And then I’ll ask them, well, how long you’ve been living here?” 10 years, 20 years, 30 years. You would think, how come they haven’t used the same contractor over and over and over? And they say it’s because they haven’t had great experiences.”
And so that’s one of the things that we strive for is, whether you’re brand new, moved into this area just recently, or you’ve been here a long time.
