4 Painting Projects to Help You Prepare for the Holidays

Posted on September 25, 2019

The temperatures have begun their decent and the school buses are on the roads again. One thing is for certain, autumn is here – and the holidays are right behind. Now is the time to consider any interior painting projects you may want to complete before the friends and family arrive to celebrate. Here are four painting projects to help you prepare for the holidays.

Entryway or Foyer

Brighten up your entryway or foyer with a new coat of paint. Since guests will likely stop off here to remove shoes, coats and hand over warm dishes of food, it’s a good place to set the tone for your home. Add a crisp color to set off garlands and wreaths. While nearly white is a popular choice, homeowners have had good success with deeper versions of red and green. Just remember when choosing this color, it must work year round, as you are unlikely to paint again, post-holidays.

Kitchen

Kitchens are a messy room. Because they are used several times a day for messy projects (like spaghetti sauce), the paint can take quite the beating. This room is also the hearth and where the family tends to gather. The kitchen is a great place to get some bang for your buck with a painting project. Rather than focusing on colors, it’s important to choose a finish that is durable. By going with a semi-gloss or glossy finish, you’ll have the ability to clean the walls, with a full wipe down to keep from stains setting in. This will keep your paint job looking fresh and crisp throughout the year.

Guest Room

If you are preparing for overnight company, now is the time to give the long-forgotten guest room a once over. Since these rooms are not used often, it’s easy to forget when they were last attended to, let alone painted. Overnight guests give you a good reason to get in that room and give it an overhaul. A new color and repairs to knicks and dings will make this the room you want to show off.

Give the room a cheerful and warm color that will be a good room of respite. Try a light sunny yellow, or a spa-like barely blue for a peaceful retreat. Remember, you should look at rooms within eye sight lines to make sure the palette works together.

Bathrooms

As with the kitchen, bathroom paint takes a beating on a daily basis. The moisture and usage in the room can cause paint to deteriorate faster than in other rooms. It’s a small painting project that your guests are all sure to appreciate. The transformation of a sparkling clean, newly painted bathroom is a welcoming site. It’s also a room you can experiment a bit with color. Feel free to get more creative in this space.
