Pre-Arrival Instructions
for Exterior Painting Projects
Ensure a smooth exterior painting project from start to finish with these pre-arrival instructions:
PREPARING FOR YOUR EXTERIOR PAINTING PROJECT
Before we arrive on the first day, there are a few things you can do to help prepare your property for the painting process. Proper preparation gives our crew the access they need to clean, prepare, and paint the exterior surfaces of your home.
If your project includes pressure washing or hand washing, please make sure the following items are taken care of before our arrival:
- Make sure your water spigot is accessible and turned on.
- Close all windows before pressure washing begins.
- Remove exterior furniture, breakable items, decorative pieces, flowerpots, baskets, flags, wreaths, and anything else you do not want exposed to water or potentially damaged by water pressure.
- Cut back bushes, tree branches, ivy, and other vegetation that is against your home or may prevent our crew from accessing the surfaces being painted.
PRESSURE WASHING AND HAND WASHING
Exterior preparation may include pressure washing or hand washing, depending on the scope of your project. These cleaning methods help prepare the surfaces before painting.
Some smaller projects may not include pressure washing. Projects such as shutter painting, front door painting, and window painting may instead include hand cleaning to help keep the project cost lower. When hand cleaning is used, we will follow the proper cleaning techniques needed to prepare the surfaces for painting.
WEATHER
Weather conditions can affect the timing of an exterior painting project. Inclement weather, precipitation, humidity, and extreme temperatures may require the crew to adjust the project schedule.
If weather conditions prevent us from working, the crew will return on the next day with suitable weather. We ask that you remain somewhat flexible when weather-related schedule changes are necessary.
PAINT CHIPS
Peeling or flaking paint may come loose during pressure washing or hand washing. Our crew will make every effort to capture and clean up paint chips; however, some paint chips are very small and may be difficult or impossible to capture completely.
LANDSCAPING
As part of the exterior preparation process, a mild bleach solution may be applied locally to areas affected by mold or mildew. We will make every effort to avoid exposing your landscaping to the solution.
Keeping bushes, tree branches, ivy, and other vegetation trimmed back from the areas being painted also helps our crew safely access the surfaces of your home.
CLEANUP
We will keep the work area clean throughout your exterior painting project.
- A surface cleanup will take place at the end of each workday.
- A full cleanup will be completed once the project is finished.
Our crew will make every effort to leave the property clean and ready for you to enjoy once the project is complete.
