PROJECT INVOLVEMENT

In July 2026, CertaPro Painters® of Roanoke, VA completed a deck and screened-in porch staining project for a home in Vinton, VA. When the project began, the wood deck and screened-in porch had no existing stain, leaving the wood without UV protection.

Before staining, all designated surfaces were soft washed to create a clean surface and help ensure proper stain adhesion. The handrails, pickets, deck flooring, posts, and trim boards were then stained using the homeowner’s supplied Cabot DeckCorrect solid stain.

Our team also stained all exposed wood framing on the exterior of the screened-in porch, along with the interior porch floor, porch ceiling, ceiling support boards, posts, window frames, and door frames. Using the same Cabot DeckCorrect solid stain throughout the project gave the deck and porch a consistent finish.

CHALLENGES

The main challenge was making sure the selected coating was the right fit for the condition of the deck. Cabot DeckCorrect is typically used on aging or damaged decking, while this deck was still in relatively good condition. Proper cleaning and surface preparation were important to achieve good adhesion and a quality finished result.

PROJECT TIMELINE

The project was completed in 3 days.

FINAL RESULTS

The completed project gave the deck and screened-in porch a fresh, uniform appearance while adding protection to the exposed wood surfaces. With all of the wood stained using the same product, the outdoor space now has a clean, consistent finish. See the photos of the results below!
