Exterior Painting Case Study
by CertaPro Painters® of Roanoke, VA
PROJECT INVOLVEMENT
In August 2026, CertaPro Painters® of Roanoke, VA completed an exterior painting project for a home in Bedford, VA. The siding had faded color, gaps in the lap siding needed to be recaulked, and the lower portion of the garage door frame had soft wood that needed to be repaired.
The team washed all surfaces before painting, including the concrete patio and brick surrounding the home. Loose or peeling paint was scraped, nail holes were filled, failing caulk was replaced, and areas were spot-primed as needed. Because the siding was separating in multiple areas, the team also caulked the vertical seams where the siding boards met.
The siding was painted using Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint matched to the original color. The white trim around the window frames, door frames, fascia trim, and vertical trim was painted with Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint in a white gloss finish. The garage door was also painted with Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint in a gloss finish matched to its original red color. The green cellar door at the rear of the home was painted as well.
Additional work was completed on the lower portion of the garage door frame. The damaged bottom section was cut out and replaced with new wood, and the seam between the existing and replacement wood was caulked. The repaired door frame was then painted with Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint in a gloss white finish. The rear bulkhead door was painted with green Pro-Industrial Alkyd Urethane paint, and the seam was caulked.
CHALLENGES
The project included several areas that required additional preparation and repair, including separating siding joints, peeling paint, and deteriorated wood on the garage door frame. The lower section of the garage door frame required partial wood replacement, with the damaged material removed and new wood installed. The team also needed to match the existing siding and red garage door to their original colors.
PROJECT TIMELINE
The project was completed in 4 days by Heath’s crew in August 2026.
FINAL RESULTS
The project included new paint on the home’s siding, trim, garage door, cellar door, and rear bulkhead door, along with repairs to the garage door frame and caulking throughout the exterior. The siding and garage door colors were matched to their original colors. Check out the photos below to see the completed work.
