Deck Staining Painting Case Study

PROJECT INVOLVEMENT

In June 2026, CertaPro Painters® of Roanoke, VA, completed a deck staining project for a home in Roanoke, VA. When work began, the deck had faded stain and showed signs of a previous DIY attempt to prime and restain portions of the surface. Because decks that are being stained should not be primed, the existing conditions required careful preparation before new coatings could be applied.

The project began with power washing the rear deck, stairs, and posts to remove dirt, debris, and surface contaminants and create a clean surface for proper adhesion. Newly repaired door frame areas were spot primed before being coated with Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel in a semi-gloss finish for added durability.

Once preparation was complete, our team stained the deck flooring, stairs, stringers, posts, handrails, and pickets using Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck Solid Color Stain in the color Utterly Beige SW 6080. The new stain refreshed the appearance of the deck while providing additional protection against the elements.

PROJECT TIMELINE

The project was completed in 2 days.

FINAL RESULTS

The completed project restored the appearance of the deck with a fresh, uniform finish and renewed protection against everyday weather exposure. With the faded stain addressed and new coatings applied, the outdoor living space now has a clean, updated look designed to last for years to come. See the photos of the results below!
