Interior Cabinet Painting Case Study
PROJECT INVOLVEMENT
In July 2026, CertaPro Painters® of Roanoke, VA, completed a cabinet refinishing project for a church in Roanoke, VA. The existing cabinetry included a mix of natural wood, black, and blue finishes, and the client was looking to refresh the space while maintaining the cabinets’ original structure.
Our team refinished the existing oak kitchen cabinetry, including all cabinet doors, drawer fronts, and cabinet faces. Every surface was properly prepared and primed using BIN Shellac Primer to promote strong adhesion and stain blocking before painting began.
Once preparation was complete, the cabinetry was coated with Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel in a semi-gloss finish in the color Loyal Blue. Rather than using a spray application, our painters used the Whizz roller method to achieve the desired appearance and provide a durable finish designed to stand up to the demands of a busy kitchen environment.
CHALLENGES
One of the biggest challenges on this project was achieving a smooth cabinet finish without the use of spray equipment. Instead, our painters relied on the Whizz roller application method, which requires precision and careful technique to minimize roller texture and maintain a consistent appearance. By applying thin, even coats, maintaining a wet edge, and using a cabinet-grade coating formulated to level as it dries, our team was able to deliver a durable finish that met the client’s expectations.
PROJECT TIMELINE
The project was completed in 1 day.
FINAL RESULTS
The completed project gave the church kitchen cabinetry an updated appearance while preserving the integrity of the existing cabinets. The new finish refreshed the space, provided added durability, and created a clean, cohesive look designed to withstand everyday use. See the photos of the results below!
