Our team is trained and prepared to recognize these types of problems and repair them as part of the prep process before paint or primer is applied. These are the 6 most common types of damage that we encounter.
Holes in Drywall
Two main causes of holes in drywall are either a sudden impact from a door, a person falling into the wall, or moving heavy objects around and running into the drywall. The repair for this kind of damage will vary depending on how big of a hole was created. A small hole might be able to just get plastered over, larger holes can either be filled with a new cut or cut out larger and replace the entire panel.
Damage from Removing Fixtures
Another common issue we come across is damage from removing fixtures, like large pictures, mirrors, or cabinets. Holes or peeling can occur and cause small spots of damage. Most of the type this type of damage can be fixed with plaster and painted over, however in some cases more work is required to cut out a segment and put in a new section of drywall.
Water Damage to Drywall
Water damage can come from inside or outside. In 2019 Los Angeles had a lot more rain than usual and it caused some homeowners to discover leaks. Generally, before any drywall repair is done in these situations, the source of the leak needs to be solved. A roof leak can be difficult to pinpoint and sometimes will require consultation with a specialist. Once the leak is fixed, we usually cut out the water-damaged section and replace the drywall, then paint the entire surface for a like-new appearance.
Nail Pops Through Drywall
Nail pops can be caused by settling homes, it’s fairly common in new construction to see a few of these within the first few years of the home. Nail pops are generally fairly easy to correct, the fix involves fastening new screws, cutting away the damaged area, and filling with a patching compound. Once fully dried new paint is applied over the top when complete it’s hard to tell there was ever an issue at all.
Other Common Causes of Drywall Damage
In addition to all the causes listed above, regular wear and tear can scuff drywall. Moving large furniture around the house and dinging a wall, kids playing, and pets can all cause drywall damage, it’s a normal part of owning a home with drywall and usually is not a serious issue, but can be a blemish from a cosmetic standpoint.
Nearly all drywall repairs require painting as a final step, sometimes our customers do not have the original color code of the paint to match the wall. We can assist we getting matching colors by getting a chip/sample of the current color and having it matched. This process is very accurate and gets great results, it will be hard to tell where the damage was once the paint is dry.
