A Modern Update
Our team was hired to paint the inside of one of many unit owned by a local investor. The space was beginning to look dated, especially the wood-grain look of the cabinets in the kitchen. We needed to give the apartment some brightness and just a touch of modernity before it could be put back on the market.
Before
A remodeling company came in before our team and removed wallpaper and skim coated over horsehair plaster in the living room. They also installed some new floors, baseboard heaters, and pot lights. For us, the kitchen was the real highlight of the project. The walls, cabinets, and window frames in this room were all stained wood before we began working. This made the space feel small and outdated.
We had to spray the entire kitchen rather than roll and brush, so it involved some planning in terms of removing hardware, labeling hardware, removing doors, and masking things off so we could properly spray the cabinet doors. Getting the job done quickly so it could get on the market was the biggest challenge we faced during this project. To see an overview of our cabinet painting process, click here.
After
After the contractors finished their renovations, our team went to work on the unit. For the cabinets, we cleaned all the surfaces to start, scuff sanded, two coats of oil primer, followed by two coats of Benjamin Moore Scuff-X White in Satin sheen. We re-installed the old cabinet and drawer hardware to retain some of the character and charm.
For the walls, we went with Ultra Spec Flat in SW6252 Ice Cube. For the trim, we went with Ultra Spec Semi-gloss in White. For the brick fireplace, we painted over the gray with Ben Moore Regal Select HC-190 Black in Semi-gloss.
