Our Favorite Paint

Posted on June 5, 2023

Choosing the right paint can be overwhelming. There are so many brands, types, colors, and sheens to choose from, it’s tough to even know where to start! At CertaPro Metro West, we take pride in helping people choose just the right paint for the job at hand, and while there are plenty of choices to make about colors and sheens, we have a few brands and types that we stand by.

Today we’re taking a look at our favorite paint brands, the specific lines we use most, and the reasons we choose them time and time again.

Before we dig into the specifics, it’s worth mentioning that cheap paint is never a good option. Whether interior or exterior, the paint you choose is what you’ll be looking at for an extended period of time, and is serving to protect your home (and family) in a variety of ways. Cheap paint doesn’t cover as well, doesn’t protect as well, and is more likely to need upkeep. Additionally, the bulk of the costs associated with hiring a professional painting company come from labor, so choosing cheap paint in an effort to save money doesn’t add up to much in the long run.

With that in mind, we recommend (and frequently use) paint from the two most reputable brands in the industry: Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams. Not only do both companies make great products, they also have excellent resources and customer support if anything goes wrong.

Here are a few of our favorites!

Benjamin Moore Regal Select

A staple for interior painting, Benjamin Moore Regal Select offers excellent coverage, durability against scuffs, and easy cleaning through proprietary Stain Release Technology. This excellent paint is available in more than 3500 colors, dries quickly, and can be used for a wide range of interior applications. It just gets the job done!

Benjamin Moore Aura

Aura is Benjamin Moore’s premium interior paint. A bit more expensive than Regal Select, this paint features Gennex Color Technology and Color Lock Technology that make for rich, fade-resistant colors and unparalleled vibrancy. When it fits into our clients’ budgets, Aura is our first choice for particularly colorful interiors. Like Regal Select, it’s available in over 3500 colors, is resistant to scuffs, and easy to clean.

Benjamin Moore Moorlife

For home exteriors, Benjamin Moore Moorlife remains a consistent favorite because of its high durability, excellent coverage and adhesion, and its resistance to mildew, cracking, stains, and beyond. It’s also extremely versatile, and can be used on all types of siding, cinder block, stucco, hardboard, and even unglazed brick. It’s a workhorse of a paint that looks great and functions even better!

Benjamin Moore Moorglo

Moorglo from Benjamin Moore is similar to Moorlife, but comes in a semi-gloss sheen that makes it perfect for trim and exterior accents. With great adhesion, coverage, and resistance to chalking, it’s a fantastic option for many surface types. For best results, it should be applied to previously painted or primed surfaces. With that in mind (plus its semi-gloss sheen), we tend not to use Moorglo for entire exteriors, and instead let it shine as an optimal choice for accents, trim, and other exterior details.

Sherwin-Williams Latitude

Here in the Northeast, the weather can be unpredictable. While some conditions make exterior painting all but impossible, products like Sherwin-Williams Latitude help give us more options to stay on schedule and make sure the job is done right. Not only is Latitude designed to be easily applied across a broad temperature range (from 35ºF to 120ºF), it also quickly develops moisture resistance against rain and dew. This fantastic paint is available in a variety of colors and finishes, and helps ensure that we can get to work even when conditions are less than ideal.

While these aren’t the only types of paint we use, they are certainly among our favorites – and the most frequently recommended. Our main focus is making sure your painting project looks great, provides necessary protection, and holds up to wear and tear. These options from Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams help us do just that!
