Commercial Painting Case Study
Children's Museum - Concrete Compass Painting
Refreshing the Compass at the Children’s Museum
Project: CertaPro Painters® of Greenville East, SC, was hired to refresh a large compass painted on the concrete outside the Children’s Museum in downtown Greenville, SC. The artwork had become dated and faded over time, and the client wanted a vibrant, long-lasting update.
Process: The project began with a thorough cleaning of the concrete surface to remove dirt, debris, and any previous residue. The team carefully taped off all areas, as the design required four colors—Classic White, Classic Gold, Downingstone, and Pewter—to ensure precise lines. The team applied a concrete stain, skimming the first coat to create a smooth base before layering the second coat. Special attention was given to alignment and detail, guaranteeing a crisp, professional finish.
Challenges: Working in downtown Greenville meant managing foot traffic and keeping the area safe for pedestrians. The team ensured all taping and barriers prevented accidental contact with the wet surface. Additionally, the project was scheduled during the museum’s closed hours to avoid disrupting daily operations, requiring precise planning and coordination.
Result: Over the course of two days, CertaPro Painters® of Greenville East, SC delivered a beautifully refreshed compass that showcased four beautiful colors. The project enhanced the museum’s exterior, bringing a fresh, colorful update that visitors can enjoy.
