Best Paint Colors for Tall Walls
Posted on May 27, 2021
CertaPro Painters® of Grand Haven has completed a large number of painting projects on homes or buildings with tall walls/high ceilings. Many home or businesses owners struggle with what paint color to choose when it comes time to paint. Here are some of our takeaways from projects we have completed over the years.
If you are painting tall walls in your home and are looking for a cozy atmosphere, choose a darker paint color that has warm undertones. With a large surface, you have the ability to use a darker color without making the room look too small. The warm paint color will help absorb some of the light and create a more warm atmosphere. If you don’t want to commit to doing the entire room a dark shade, consider just painting one wall a darker shade and leaving the rest of the walls neutral. This will provide you with a good balance of light and warmth.
If you would prefer to have your home or business feel more big and open then you should choose a lighter paint color. Think soft greys, whites and creams. If you decide to go this route, you can always add in warmth and color through the furniture and décor you add to the space.
Here are some of our favorite paint shades for tall walls that we have seen:
White -> It may sound basic but if done right, all white walls look stunning in homes and businesses with tall walls and high ceilings. If you decide to go with white we would recommend putting extra effort into adding in color, warmth and texture through furniture and décor. Don’t be afraid to play around with bright and fun colors, it will make the space look a lot more interesting.
Tan -> A warm tan shade with red undertones will create that perfect cozy atmosphere we talked about above.
Navy Blue -> This dark shade will make the room feel cozy while also making the space unique. Not many people choose this shade but it is definitely underrated in spaces with tall walls.
Sage Green -> This gives a space a pop of color without being too overwhelming.
One important thing to remember is to never choose just based off the tiny paint sample cards. The color of the paint can look very different depending on the size of the walls and amount of light they reflect. It is important to take those things into consideration before picking a color.
