Veteran Spotlight: Meet Matt Abrams

Matt Abrams has many duties here as the production manager for CertaPro Painters® of Colorado Springs. Before he took on this role, though, Abrams was an active military member who was stationed throughout the world.
Abrams joined the army in 2003 as a tracked vehicle mechanic. He was first stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, attached to the 1st Armored Division “Old Ironsides.”
“I originally joined the military because I was terrified of the idea and knew I didn’t want to let fear control my decisions,” Abrams said. “I learned that the courage comes after the fear.”
Abrams was deployed to Iraq in 2003, 2005, and again in 2008. In 2010, he was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado attached to the 52nd Engineer Battalion. Three years later, he was moved to be stationed in Camp Casey, South Korea.
“It took me some time to get some traction in my career,” Abrams said, “but once I did, I couldn’t imagine giving up being part of that kind of team. I suppose that is why I ended up wearing the uniform for so long. When being in any job long enough, you can find yourself going through the motions if you aren’t being challenged.”
After being stationed in South Korea, Abrams went back to Fort Carson. He left active-duty service in January of 2016. He has been a member of the National Guard since. Abrams has also joined the team at CertaPro Painters®, where he has found a new team to be a part of.
Abrams said: “I decided to join Kevin Henderson at CertaPro because of the idea of being part of a real team again. What I enjoy most about working for Kevin as a production manager is the challenge. Knowing that no two days will be the same. I am surrounded by an amazing team that pushes me to be the best version of myself I can be. I really couldn’t ask to work for a better group of people!”
