Stain to Paint Conversion Project

Initial Assessment

When we arrived at the site, we were met with a ceiling that had never been painted or sealed. The raw wood and joists had gaps between them, providing entry points for insects and critters. Our objective was clear: seal the gaps, paint the ceiling, and stain the joists to enhance their appearance.

Project Scope

Our work primarily involved staining, painting, and caulking. However, we encountered a challenge with some of the larger gaps between the shiplap boards and the walls. These required backer rods to be installed before caulking could effectively seal them.

Special Considerations

The previous summer, the homeowners had experienced a moth infestation due to the gaps in the ceiling. Moths, usually migratory, had stayed in Black Forest because of the high moisture levels. To prevent a recurrence, our task included not only aesthetic improvements but also ensuring that the ceiling was effectively sealed against pests.
