Athens Exterior Painting Tips
Warm, wet air: Athens has hot and muggy summers, with high humidity in the air. The winters are also cold and wet. Because of this humidity, almost year-round, you’ll typically see mildew growth on homes. We tend to paint homes in Athens every five to seven years to combat wear and tear and to protect the substrate. Because of this almost constant moisture in the air, we recommend pressure washing your home annually.
Rotted wood and trim: are a particular concern for homes in Athens. Because the ever-present moisture in the air can be harsh, wood rot is often seen. It is very important that if you see any rotten wood or trim on your home that you replace it as soon as possible. Left untreated, this could allow water to get into the wood and cause additional damage to the exterior of your home.
PVC vs. wood replacement: We have fully trained painters and carpenters on staff to replace any sections of rot on your home before we paint. We will often replace sections of rot with PVC boards so the rotting does not occur again in the addressed area. PVC is a more expensive material, however, knowing you won’t need to replace the board in the futures saves money in the long term. When the PVC pieces are added to wood trim in a few areas, it is fully paintable and will blend into your home amongst the other wood trim.
