Four Rooms to Paint Before the Holidays

Posted on November 17, 2022

The year has flown by and the holidays are right around the corner! With the colder weather settling in across the Andover region, now is the time to begin sprucing up your indoors to host holiday guests and gatherings. Before pulling out the holiday décor, give your walls a once over. Have they lost their luster over the last several years? If so, it’s time to invest in interior paint before the holidays.

Remember when picking a paint color that it should go with the holiday look you are trying to achieve, while also being appealing enough to look at the rest of year. Coordinating with fresh, crisp neutrals like white, taupe or silver can be the perfect solution. For warmer options, try yellow, green or beige.

When you prepare for your painting, get a good idea of the areas you would like to address. Common areas typically take the biggest beating. Focus on places that will be utilized for your holidays, such as the kitchen and dining area. If you are planning to have guests stay with you, then consider updating the guest bedroom or bathrooms.

Dining Room

Most holiday parties or dinner gatherings will use the dining room. This often empty area tends to be overlooked when it comes to updating with paint. Give it a makeover with a pleasing color, and the space will feel new again. Choose a hue that will compliment table linens, centerpieces, and dishes used for the holidays.

Kitchen

Kitchens are the centerpiece of the home. Unfortunately, this also means more spills, splatters and messes strewn across the walls. Degreasing and painting will allow the kitchen to shine like new. Coordinating the colors between the kitchen and dining area creates a magazine-worthy look to set the stage for creating memories with your loved ones not just at the holidays, but throughout the year.

Guest Rooms

The holidays may bring family and friends to town, meaning use of the guest areas of your home. Guest rooms and bathrooms sit vacant most of the time; out of sight, out of mind. Now is the time to take inventory of your extra towels, sheets and pillows. While you’re rifling through the guest bath and bedroom, inspect the walls. Are they dingy and in need of some love before family arrives? Consider a paint job to give the room a fresh feeling.

Family/Living Rooms

A lot of homeowners have a formal living room or family room that is not used frequently. Set the tone for morning gift opening or New Years Eve cheersing by adding an accent wall and/or new paint to the walls. The room will feel new and inviting for your family and your guests.
