The Best Paint Colors for a Nursery

Posted on April 20, 2021

It can be a lot of fun to get a room ready for a baby. It can be a lot of work though, too. One major part of creating the nursery of your dreams is choosing the right paint color. But which option do you go with? Should you choose a classic blue or pink? Or go with something more subtle, like grey? Worry no longer. The experts at CertaPro are here to help you choose the best paint colors for a nursery.

While you really could use any color as your primary nursery color, some are obviously better than others. We have collected our five favorite nursery colors and why we recommend them for your nursery. Of course, when you choose to work with CertaPro, you can get your very own free color consultation! Without further ado, here are our recommendations:

Calm Blues

Blue is a classic nursery color whether you are having a boy or a girl. The color provides a very calming, relaxing atmosphere, which is great for babies. Blue also matches the colors of the sea or the sky, which are great for your baby to get accustomed to. In fact, exposure to the color has been known to lower blood pressure, heart rate, and respiration. Be careful, though, dark blues can have the opposite effect and can even energize your baby!

Soft Purples

It is hard to go wrong with a soft purple color for your nursery. This is not an extremely common nursery color, but we think it is a great tone for any room. It is especially great for accent walls and accessories. Lilac is a perfect option for a girl’s room, too, since it is a timeless color. As the child grows, the purple color can take on new meanings and evolve too!

Light Greys

If you’re more of a neutral tone family, there is nothing wrong with a light grey. Choosing this as the wall color allows you to have fun, colorful accessories without worrying about colors clashing. Grey is also a contemplative color that brings a sense of calm. However, if you choose too dark of a tone this can quickly turn into dreariness. Remember: most paints look darker on a wall than in the paint can.

Pastel Greens

Greens are a wonderful way to get a child in touch with Mother Nature. The color can provide a sense of security, health, healing, and overall well-being. Some studies have even found that exposure to green can increase reading ability! While this may not be useful for your newborn, your kid sure will appreciate the boost as it grows older. Unlike other colors, both light and dark greens will do the trick!

Happy Yellow

The last color on our list is the classic yellow. This color easily brings drops of cheer to a neutral nursery space. It also goes perfectly with white furniture, such as cabinets and rocking chairs. Yellow is also a gender-neutral color. So if your little baby is a surprise, yellow is a super safe option. We recommend going with a lighter, creamier yellow instead of a bright, fluorescent yellow. This will make for a happier baby––and a happier you!
