Concrete Patio Paint Ideas
Posted on January 30, 2022
As we all prepare to head into the great outdoors for summer, your patio could be in sad shape. Most homeowners ignore the patio flooring as a necessary evil of untouched concrete. The slab can be turned fab with just a bit of time and paint. Rather than covering up the gray mass with planters and outdoor rugs, why not do something more long-lasting? Adding colour and style to the floor of your patio is unexpected and beautiful. This can set your patio apart from your neighbors and make your home the destination for outdoor drinks or tapas. There are many options with a bit of time and finesse you can achieve successfully. Here are three concrete patio paint ideas to get your started.
Natural Gray
Painting a floor natural gray retains the unfussy aspects of an unpainted floor while allowing for the crisp, fresh feeling of a gray with warm undertones. This works especially well if you intend to incorporate a lot of colours in the form of furniture or planters around it. Pair in teal terracotta pots and bright blue seating for a winning combination.
Bold Patterns
For the more adventurous painters, go bolder with a patterned floor. Take special care to get lines straight with painters tape and then paint away. Triangles, squares and other geometric shapes can be achieved fairly easily and readily. Use two contrasting colours to get the most out of your look. We have seen very successful gray and black patios painted in triangle shapes. When you choose a look like this, you’ll want to tone down the accessories in the area.
Concrete Patio Painting Tips
This project works best if you paint around the edges of the concrete blocks with your brush first. Afterward, use the roller to paint giant swaths of paint. This allows you to move quickly from area to area while protecting the edges from splatter and paint where it doesn’t belong.
Allow time to go back in the sunlight and inspect your work. There will be missing patches, so expect it on the first go round. Attempt to cover all of them with the second coating so that the third can just be a precautionary step.
Stencil Patterns
Another way to incorporate a pattern into your floor is with a stencil. This sets up the illusion of a fancy tiled floor while remaining budget friendly and super stylish. Choose colours that will contrast each other and show off the stencil. Opt for a darker colour as the base and paint a lighter colour on top. We like using a burnt orange under a creamy white to give the feeling of a Mexican bungalow.
