Prepping and Painting a Classic Victorian in a Historic Part of New Britain

The west end of New Britain contains a historic district of homes, all built around the turn of the last century. These were the homes of the local captains of industry when New Britain was a manufacturing powerhouse, filled with small and medium sized factories producing all kinds of things from tools to finished products.

Before work started…

You can see that the house was more than due for a repainting. There were areas where the paint was flaking off, faded, and in general disrepair. Some of the steps on the deck needed to be replaced as well as some of the shingles that cover the home.

While the work was ongoing…

While the normal amount of scraping and sanding was employed, we also needed to have the local power company come out to remove the power lines from the house. In order to safely paint the house without getting any surprises, this one side of the house was painted all within the same day so that the power could be removed and then quickly restored.

When the paintbrushes were finally set down for the last time…

The results are bold and eye-catching, this beautiful, classic victorian went from faded to fresh and the color choice was the driving force behind the transformation. The trim color also highlights all the lines of this home’s design.
