Checking the Super Bowl off her ‘vision bucket list’
Posted on May 10, 2023
Recently CertaPro Painters of Shawnee-Mission, KS, Janae Nezerka got to take the trip of a lifetime to see the Super Bowl and managed to attract a bit of news attention in the process. Below is a bit of the coverage provided by KMBC TV, WBAL Radio, and Local Today:
“One Kansas City fan will do anything to see a Chiefs Super Bowl LVII win because of what she’s losing. Janae Nezerka predicted a Chiefs win. Unfortunately, there’s one thing she could never predict.
“In my left eye, I’m considered doubly legally blind. Right, I still have some vision,” Nezerka said. An infection decades ago led to scar tissue leading this member of Chiefs Kingdom to go legally blind.
“I had to make the decision to stop driving, and I no longer have the ability to read without specialty glasses or very large monitors or my text blown up on my phone,” Nezerka said. Coming to Super Bowl LVII with her husband is part of something she calls her “vision bucket list.”
Also on that list: Skiing, cliff diving and whale watching.
Even as she continues to struggle with her vision, Nezerka says she won’t let it define her. She has a special scope she can use to get a better look at the action.
“I’m excited. It’s hard not to tear up because I’m very passionate about it. In 2016 when this first started, we went to Maui. I snorkeled with the sea turtles. Pretty incredible stuff to see. This is just the beginning of pushing my own boundaries with faith, family, and my friends. That’s how I can do what I can do every day. I’m not going to let this define me. I’m going to figure out a way to define it. You can tell Janae is just over the moon to be here, but she’s over the moon in general. She says she is grateful for her life, grateful for everything she’s seen, and everything she has yet to see in Phoenix.”
