Prepare Your Home for Hurricane Season

Posted on April 26, 2021

Ensure Your Residential Property is Ready for This Year’s Storms Can Save in the Long Run

Temperatures are rising and that means one thing: hurricane season is right around the corner. Whether you own residential or commercial property, now is the time to prepare for impending weather. Wind and rain can wreak havoc on your structure, if steps aren’t taken now. Our team is happy to help prepare your home for this hurricane season.

According to the National Flood Insurance Program, the average hurricane-related home flood claim was over $39,000. Most of this damage comes from wind and water. There are steps you can take now to save yourself money later.

Windows

Properly sealing windows is a small but important step to take for hurricane season. Weather stripping can fail fairly quickly due to the heat and humidity in our area. Have windows and stripping checked on a regular basis. Look at caulking around the windows for pulling away from the walls. If needed, have the areas caulked and painted to hide the repairs.

Holes

Anywhere water can run down your walls or pool by the foundation is a potential repair. Inspect any area where there could potentially be holes in your home. This includes around wiring, pipes, soffits, windows and more.

Substrate and Paint

While you are preparing for the potential storms, inspect your stucco or substrate for cracking or other signs of deterioration. Even if your property is in good standing as far as damage, the paint can need work. Paint is the first layer of defense for your home against the wind, debris and driving rain that hurricanes bring with them.
