2 Story Focal Railing Painting Project in Draper, Utah

We were contracted to repaint a 2 story focal railing in the great room of a home. A separate general contractor (unaffiliated with CertaPro Painters) was doing other construction throughout the home. We were able to enhance the staircase by delivering a contrasting railing of black against a neutral wall.

The project involved a large amount of prep work. Miguel’s team used masking tape and plastic to tape off a 2 story section of the great room from floor to ceiling, taping off every metal spindle of the railing, and protecting the flooring and stair treads. We also utilized our industrial spray booth to get a very 1 smooth finish on the banisters.

Project Challenges

After we had sprayed the railings and completed our portion of the home remodel, the contractor that is unaffiliated with us scratched the finished project. We believe in delivering what we promise so we went back to the jobsite, and due to one more repair required by the same outside contractor, redid the staircase banisters and footings 2 more additional times by hand and on site. The unforeseen contractor errors took what would have normally been a 2 1/2 – 3 day project and stretched our completion to 3 weeks.

Staircase Handrail Painting

For the project we used a spray booth, with a tacky cloth technique after sanding between each coat of paint applied

We used Tricorn Black in the Pro Industrial water based alkyd urethane paint. This product holds up well in high traffic areas and once cured performs like a lacquer.

The most notable parts of this project was our desire to please the customer despite the obstacles that were present and deliver on what we promised; and the amount of detailed prep work required to execute a job of this type.

Project In Progress Photos

This project required us to carefully isolate the banister for the paint spray. We set up a temporary spray booth and masked off all other surfaces.

All of the walls, stairs, and floor were covered to prevent paint from getting onto the surfaces

THE FINAL RESULT

After the projects were complete, CertaPro Painters® gathered images of the newly painted walls and installed cedar posts in the entryway. The transformation provided lively colors and a beautifully stained cedar section.
