A house in Baxter Village says “Yes” to the Accent Wall

Baxter Village is famous for its uniquely styled homes, as a planned development the village is part tightknit community and part movie set. With tree-lined streets and front porches galore it’s a trip back in time, incorporating house styles and trim details that make this village of 1400 houses an award-winning place to live. Much of the visual interest of these homes carries over into the interior as well.
For one Fort Mill resident living in Baxter Village, an interior re-paint included the addition of an accent wall painted in a bold and contrasting color choice.
With the plan of repainting the first floor, an opportunity presented itself, a chance to make one wall into a real statement that both flowed with the other color choices but stood out by itself. The purpose of an accent wall is to add a bit of drama, to highlight a certain home feature, or showcase art, pictures, or decor. In the case of this wall, the color choice was made to tie into a painting that worked with both the accent color and the primary color of the room.
As you plan an interior house painting project of your own you also have an opportunity to go bold with an accent wall. The easiest way to start is by first choosing the color you intend to paint most of the room. With a color sample in hand, you can then compare it to other color choices for the accent wall. You might go for a contrasting color or you might just go with a lighter or darker shade of your primary color. As long as the difference between the two isn’t subtle you’re on the right track.
You can make the accent wall color match a painting, an upholstery color, a rug color, or any piece of decor. If you have a wall that houses a fireplace, a row of windows, or built-in shelves you might choose that as your accent wall if you want to minimize the impact of the wall. If you would rather have it really say “accent wall” then choose a large unbroken interior wall. Once you have the wall chosen you can then decorate around it accordingly.
As you can see in the photo a fairly small but unbroken interior wall was chosen and then the painting that inspired the choice was placed along with a pair of lamps that further highlight its appearance. The nicest thing about adding an accent wall as part of an interior painting project is that it adds very little to the cost of the project, it’s just another can of paint that may not get used entirely, and it might have a small effect on the overall time required to complete the work, that’s it really.
To get started pick a wall and choose your primary and accent colors. Make sure you know in advance that they will all work together and off you go. If you arent feeling very confident in your ability to make the choices the painting professionals at CertaPro Painters® of Rock Hill, SC will be glad to offer you a free color consultation, Just let them know what you would like to do and then view your options.
If you have that perfect painting, piece of art, or furniture that you want to integrate, just show it to them and work from there. Remember also that you don’t have to make it that tightly integrated, you can always just paint one wall a different color and let its difference serve as both a statement and a way to break up the sameness in one room or the flow between rooms. Adding a single darker wall can add mood without turning a room into a cave or making it feel smaller like darker shades often do.
