3 Home Improvement Projects You Should Take On Before Winter

Posted on September 11, 2023

Since we’re at the beginning of fall, it is a great time to plan and take on home improvement projects that may be affected by the cold and harsh weather winter brings. Once snow falls and its freezing outside, not only will you not want to be outside working for hours on end, but you also want to make sure your home is prepared when that weather. Here are some home improvement project ideas to prepare your home for winter:

  1. Paint your exterior. Since we still have relatively warm weather early on in the fall, it would be a good idea to get your home’s exterior painted. A new coat of paint is one of the easiest ways to ensure that your home stays protected from cold and harsh weather. Additionally, snowfall can make it hard for a professional painting crew to access the painting area or put up ladders if your home is more than one story. Most painting crews also have more availability in the fall, meaning you can schedule during a time that works best for you.
  2. Blacktop your driveway. Freezing temperatures can damage your asphalt driveway if there is any existing surface or underlying damage. Specifically, melting snow can get underneath your driveway, causing structural damage. Blacktopping your driveway can help prevent this moisture from getting into your driveways imperfections.
  3. Power wash your home. Typically, power washing should be performed as regular maintenance to your home. We suggest not power washing in the winter as freezing temperatures can make wet surfaces take longer to dry or freeze over.
