Annie’s Cottage: A Thoughtful Exterior Transformation
In 2024, a historic restoration project was completed on a property known as Annie’s Cottage, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Originally built in 1901, this two-story, 4-bedroom, 1.5-bathroom residence spans approximately 2,472 square feet and is situated in the heart of the Central City neighborhood.
Since 2017, the property has been part of The Other Side Academy (TOSA), a nonprofit organization committed to helping individuals recover from addiction, criminal behavior, and homelessness.

Scope of the Project:
The week-long project involved a full exterior repaint of the home, which had previously accumulated many layers of coatings over its long history. Given the building’s age, surfaces were far from perfect and required careful preparation. The crew began by protecting the surrounding landscaping and walkways with plastic sheeting and performed a full power wash of the exterior, following lead-safe practices throughout the process.
Painting was completed on all four sides of the structure, including the body, windows, soffits, and trim. The body was painted in Sherwin-Williams 7011 Natural Choice, while the soffits and trim received a complementary contrast in SW 9173 Shiitake. Additional work included painting the side access stairs and select areas of the front porch, carefully masking off permanent trim lighting and caulking brick joints for a finished look.

Before Photos
Before the transformation, Annie’s Cottage showed signs of its age with weathered surfaces and multiple layers of old paint. The historic character was there, but it needed careful attention to bring it back to life.
After Photos
The finished project highlights the thoughtful color choices and craftsmanship used to breathe new life into this 1901 residence.
