Auto Shop Exterior Repaint with Modern Checkered Design

PROJECT SCOPE:

The project included full exterior preparation and repainting of the concrete block building, including the building body, doors, door frames, trim, and roll-up doors.

Before painting began, the team thoroughly power washed the exterior to remove dirt, buildup, and surface contaminants from the concrete block substrate. Proper cleaning and preparation were essential to ensure strong paint adhesion and a durable finish.

Once surfaces were cleaned and ready, the crew completed the base coatings before carefully laying out and painting the custom checkered pattern across the building exterior.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS:

One of the primary challenges of the project was the textured concrete block surface combined with the complexity of the checkered design. Achieving crisp, consistent lines across nearly 4,000 square feet required extensive layout work and careful execution.

The team spent many hours taping the exterior to ensure clean pattern transitions and sharp geometric lines throughout the building. Because the block texture naturally creates uneven surfaces, precision and attention to detail were especially important during both taping and paint application.

SPECIAL TECHNIQUIES:

This project relied heavily on detailed layout and masking techniques to create the large-scale checkered effect. Careful planning and precision taping ensured the design remained visually consistent across the textured block surfaces.

Professional spraying and finish application methods were then used to deliver smooth, uniform coverage throughout the project.

COLOR PALETTE:

The design featured a custom checkered pattern using Sherwin Williams paints in Online and Peppercorn. To create strong visual contrast and a polished finish, all doors and trim were painted in Tricorn Black.
