Background

At the St. John location of Crew Carwash, the exterior light posts were beginning to show visible signs of rust. To preserve their appearance and protect against further corrosion, the facility team asked CertaPro Painters of Northwest Indiana to repaint the light posts using a higher-quality paint and primer system.

Objectives

  • Repaint all exterior light posts using Sherwin-Williams Monorail Silver (SW 7663)
  • Remove flags from each post before painting and reinstall them once the coating had fully dried

Planning and Preparation

A site assessment was conducted on March 17, 2025, to evaluate the condition of all light posts and coordinate access around car wash operations. Based on durability and finish requirements, Sherwin-Williams’ Pro Industrial Sher-Cryl Performance Exterior Acrylic line was selected for its superior weathering protection and visual appearance.

The project timeline was carefully coordinated with the general manager to begin work two hours prior to opening and complete all work within two days to avoid business disruption.

Execution

The project began with the removal of flags from the top of each light post. Minor surface preparation included sanding rusted areas and spot-priming the most affected sections using Sherwin-Williams Kem-Bond. Once prep was complete, each post received two coats of Monorail Silver paint for a clean, consistent finish.

Before work began, a quality control walkthrough was conducted on site with the CertaPro Painters of Northwest Indiana Project Manager and Job Site Supervisor. A final walkthrough was completed at the end of the project to ensure all work met expectations.

Challenges

Timing and access were critical for this project. To avoid obstructing customer lanes, painting had to begin two hours before opening and wrap up in a narrow time window. Additionally, the work needed to be completed early in the week, as Crew Carwash experiences higher traffic later in the week.

Outcomes

The project was completed on time and on budget without causing any disruption to Crew Carwash operations. The freshly painted light posts now look modern, clean, and well-protected from weathering. The Crew Carwash team provided positive feedback and appreciated the seamless execution.

Done quickly and on time, never put our guests in position to not utilize the carwash. Communication every step of the way was top notch!
