Background

Action for Children, a Chicago-based organization, initiated a brand refresh that included a new logo rollout. They requested CertaPro Painters of Northwest Indiana to assist in removing the existing logo walls and repainting the reception areas at three separate locations. In addition to the reception updates, they wanted to modernize the Commons Area walls at their Damen Avenue location with fresh, durable paint.

Objectives

  • Repaint interior walls using Sherwin-Williams colors: Tony Taupe (SW 7038), Restful White (SW 7563), and Vintage Gold (SW 9024)
  • Complete Commons Area painting without disrupting employee workflow
  • Complete all three reception area accent walls in one day while receptionists were off

Planning and Preparation

A full site assessment was conducted on April 17, 2025, to review the condition of all surfaces and plan logistics across the three sites. The Sherwin-Williams Cashmere line was selected for its smooth finish and excellent washability, ideal for high-traffic areas like reception zones and shared commons.

Scheduling was carefully coordinated with the facility manager to ensure the reception walls at all three locations could be completed in a single day, minimizing disruption and aligning with staff availability.

Execution

The project began with the removal of old logo elements from the reception accent walls. Crews took care to cover and protect surrounding floors, furniture, and fixtures during the painting process. Surface preparation included minor patching and wall repair to ensure a clean, smooth finish.

All painted areas received two coats of the specified Sherwin-Williams colors. A quality control walkthrough was performed before painting began, led by the CertaPro Painters of Northwest Indiana Project Manager and Job Site Supervisor. Upon completion, a final Pride Walk was conducted with the job site supervisor and project manager to confirm satisfaction.
Challenges

One of the primary challenges was completing all three reception areas in a single day. The team worked efficiently to meet the tight schedule, knowing the spaces needed to be ready before the receptionists returned. Close coordination, team allocation, and time management were key to success.
Outcomes

The project was completed on time and within budget. The refreshed reception walls at all three locations are now ready for the new vinyl logo installations. The Commons Area at Damen Avenue was also updated with a clean, modern look using a more washable paint product suited for high-use areas. Feedback from the Action for Children team was overwhelmingly positive, and additional projects are already being planned.

"Done in the appropriate time and schedule given, looks incredibly better and the washability should last much longer than the past product. Matching of the colors was done well. Daily communication and availability were great."
