Painting in Winter? It’s possible, with CertaPro Painters

Posted on November 8, 2021

Traditionally, painting during the colder seasons has been discouraged by people and experts. Colder temperatures are said to prevent paint from drying and curing properly, decreasing the quality of your paint job.

Is there a way we can actually paint our house during winter?

Yes, there is. For starters, it is best to start later in the morning to allow what – what the pros call, the substrate – to dry off and heat up before you start painting.

Some substrates, like concrete and plaster, are slow to warm up and can have a surface temperature well below room or air temperature. You can speed up this process by removing any moisture residue that might be found on the surface to be painted.

Next, finish the painting project while there’s still sunlight; this will help paint dry better, avoiding the damage that can be caused by dew or other humid agents.

This means that pretty much all of the paint jobs should be performed during sunlight in the colder months. 10 AM to 3 PM is the best time to accomplish this, according to experts.

Be wary of not finishing early enough and pushing it too late in the day, as the temp drops and the dew point hits you could find your paint on the floor or ground in the morning rather than the wall.

At CertaPro Painters Northwest Florida, we have the tools, the team, and the time to get your project done, even during the cooler months of the year. Give us a call! You’ll find our services to be affordable and professional.
