Fall Painting Projects: Paint for the Holidays

The holidays are fast approaching, and it’s time to plan for it. Get ready for Thanksgiving and more by having a look at your walls. Are they less than stellar? Dings and stains? Let’s get those corrected before the cousins and parents come over. To get you started, here are our fall painting projects: paint for the holidays!
Palette
What sort of feeling are you wanting in your home? Remember, long after the lights and garlands are put away, the color will remain. Use our color visualizer to upload an image and test out colors. Trim
Highlight your rooms with a clean color on the trim. Very often trim is the first area to show wear and tear. Normally it’s very high-touch areas and usually painted in white or close to it. Because of these features, fingers and bumps take a toll on the trim before the walls. Sometimes an update to the trim can give you the biggest change in your room. Remember, trim painting is the most tedious and time-consuming. When choosing a color, pick a glossy or semi-gloss finish to allow for cleaning in the future and prolong the life of the paint.
Coordinate
Should your project include more than one room, it’s a good idea to take into account eyesight lines. Blending colors from room to room creates the magazine-worthy color scheme. Your eyes need a break between vivid colors, so try to incorporate a neutral color in halls or rooms that are visible through doors.
When working in great rooms, err on the side of more neutral, since the area is a large part of your living quarters. A bright red or deep green is probably better saved for a library or office. For great rooms, think gray, beige, variants of white.

Accents
While you are considering a paint job, try making your walls work or you. Create an interactive chalkboard. This is good in a child’s room, kitchen cabinet or other family gathering area. It can be used for drawing fun in a kid’s room, or to keep track of after school activities in a common area.
Furniture
Another place to add color is on old, tired furniture. A dinged up desk or mismatched armoire can easily become a focal point with a paint job. Try a bright or accent color to set off the piece. Take apart any doors or drawers and remove the hardware to make the job easier. If there is a finish on it, strip it down. Then sand, prime, and paint. These steps are important to avoid bleed-through and allow good adhesion of the paint.
