In May 2024, CertaPro Painters® of Maine completed an exterior color change for a home in Kennebunk, ME. While the surfaces were in decent condition, the homeowner decided to switch from a red to a crisp white color.

Our team began by prepping the surfaces, including pressure washing, scraping, and lightly sanding and priming any bare wood. Since the original red color was quite bold, a blocking primer was necessary to fully conceal it and ensure the light new color would go on smoothly.

The main challenge was the need for multiple coats of primer to completely cover the red, a common issue when transitioning from deep colors like red, orange, or yellow to lighter shades. Our team applied the primer carefully and thoroughly to prevent any color bleed-through.
