Downtown Portland Warehouse Project
CertaPro Painters® of Maine
Portland Warehouse and Manufacturing OSHA Line Striping
Commercial Case Study
Our team of commercial painting contractors were called to a large 80,000 square foot manufacturing and warehouse facility in a Portland-area industrial park. The company produces food grade products, with 24-hour pedestrian and forklift traffic, and needed flexible work hours, FDA compliant paint products, and durable materials. Our team worked multiple weekends to lay down OSHA guideline pedestrian walkways, forklift crosswalks along with fire extinguisher and eyewash station markings throughout this very busy facility.
About the Project
The customer QEHS Manager was looking to add bright pedestrian walkways and forklift crosswalks throughout the manufacturing and warehouse areas. These marking systems would improve the company’s OSHA-compliance and the overall safety of employees, contractors and visitors in this very active facility. Because the facility produces food products, we had to make sure our paint products were FDA compliant and that they were upgraded to epoxy-based products to improve adhesion to heavily used and polished floors with years of contaminants. Almost 2-miles of yellow walkway striping along with more than ten red forklift crosswalks were added.
PROJECT INVOLVEMENT
We used a Graco LineLazer V ES2000 battery powered striping machine. This equipment is essential for these sorts of projects because it operates noise free and generate zero hazardous fumes and emissions. Painters could continue painting while employees were present and manufacturing was ongoing.
SPECIAL CHALLENGES
To comply with FDA and OSHA Safety protocols, the entire crew was outfitted with hairnets, robes and safety glasses. Standard line striping paint would not stick to the heavily polished and contaminated concrete so we upgraded to premium epoxy-based products for increased brightness, durability and longevity. Use of our battery powered electric striper and the flexibility of working weekend shifts caused minimal interruption to facility operations during the course of the project.
PROJECT TIMELINE
Though our crews and equipment can lay down 100’s of feet of line striping per hour, this project took multiple weeks to complete as we coordinated work with the customer’s production demands.
