Residential Garage Floor Coating Case Study in Louisville, KY

In May 2024, we were asked to renovate the interior and exterior of a garage in Louisville. Before starting, this garage floor was saturated with years of oil and the garage overall was looking a little drab. This project required some in-depth prep on the concrete floor, walls, and trim.

This project needed two concrete floor grinders, two hand grinders, a generator, and a Hepa Vac. It was a complicated project due to the concrete requiring extensive grinding and crack repair which involves a 2-part concrete reinforcement and is followed by a 2-part epoxy (oil resistant) primer and ResuPrimer by Sherwin Williams. After curing, we continued our floor coating with Sherwin William’s Elladur5, a fast-drying Polyaspartic coating. We applied a basecoat, followed by a layer of flake (100% coverage to saturation), and then a topcoat of clear polyaspartic.

It took 2 days for the floor repair, followed by 2 days of applying the floor polyaspartic coating. The customer was delighted and has been enjoying their refreshed garage ever since! See the transformation below.

I just recently had Certapro Painters of Kentuckiana, owned by Lee Sapata, install a speckled Polyaspartic floor in our three bay walk-in garage. His crew, Steve, Armando and Samuel, installed the new flooring over the existing concrete floor which was around 40 years old. They ground out the oil stains and then, through a series of solvents and coatings (to make sure the oil stains would not “bleed through”), provided a new floor which now resists oil and other stains, will not crack, and will provide unlimited years of service. Maintenance of the new Polyaspartic floor is now easy…stains of most any type will wash off using dishwasher soap, ensuring that the new floor will remain vibrant for many years to come. For a walk-in garage, the epoxy floor will undoubtedly be a real selling point when we sell our home. We will far more than recoup the costs of this project.

Certapro also painted the garage to match the “Wombat” floor color selected.

I unqualifiedly recommend Certapro Painters of Kentuckiana for anyone considering the benefits of a garage epoxy flooring system. They were professional in all respects and cleaned-up after their work was completed. When visitors now walk through our garage into our home, everyone notices the beauty of this garage area.
