DIY Headboards

Posted on May 22, 2017

Early on in my marriage I decided I wanted to buy some very high end bedroom furniture. The kind of furniture I could pass down for generations. We found what we wanted in with a Cherry armoire and dresser.  The furniture was large and expensive, so we opted not to get the headboard. Years later as we moved into our second house and watched the movers almost die trying to get this massive furniture to the new, more spacious bedroom I wished I had gotten the headboard. No biggie, I’ll just make one! Here are some of my favorite ideas for creative headboards.

Cabinet doors – This looks pretty easy. You can get as creative or basic as you want.

Cloth – I was seriously considering this type. It wouldn’t cost much and the design possibilities are endless.

Stained Wood – In this one the boards are horizontal, but I have seen them perpendicular as well. Stain them or paint them any color that suits you.

Shutters are something I had never thought of before as a headboard, but it works!

Bench Cushions is another option that could be easily pulled off by someone with little artistic ability and I love that you can add the frames above it!

Doors and windows, especially old ones, make great headboards!
