Posted on May 16, 2024

Since you’re locked inside for the remainder of the winter, why not take on a painting project to beautify your home. These projects take an afternoon and a little elbow grease to accomplish. Here are some small paint projects with a big impact to take on from our Kansas painting professionals.

Bench Beautification

Benches give your porch a welcoming feeling, even in the snow. Upcycle an inexpensive bench by purchasing in the off season. Get some seating from a garage sale, thrift store or local site. Work in the garage, with the door open for ventilation. Feel free to get creative with colors and style options. Add a stencil to coordinate with your home and create a pulled together look.

Lighten up Lanterns

Another option for warming your snowy exterior is with lanterns. Pick up some thrift or garage sale lanterns. Typically, homeowners discard these items at the first sign of wear. Use a sander or brush to remove the rusty or loose pieces, then add a color to match your home. Metallic, bright, vivid or pops of color can welcome you home. Consider adding solar lights inside.

Done Up Dresser

Drawer space seems like it’s always lacking. Whether you need a cabinet for linens or guest room dresser to hide messes away, add some storage with an upcycled dresser. Pick a color that goes with the intended room and add it to the dresser to make it fit perfectly. Sand the finish off of the dresser, consider adding a primer layer and wipe down the dresser before you paint.

Bright Bookcase

A bookcase is a great place to add a touch of whimsy to a stuffy piece of furniture. Try adding a vibrant peek a boo color to show behind the books. Paint only the back piece of the book case to allow a bright color to show through over the books. If you want more statement, go for broke and paint the whole book case. Make sure you sand off any finishes before applying the paint for good adhesion.

Additional Art

Add artwork to your walls with customized frames. Find inexpensive frames at stores or garage sales. Pick one color to make a gallery with and paint the outside of the frames. Good choices are bright blue or sunny yellow to bring color to a darker room.

Lame Laundry

Laundry rooms tend to be forgotten but you spend time in their doing work. Try adding fun colors and functionality to the room. Colorful shelves and hooks allow you to keep your tools picked up and get your chores done with a bit of fun.
