Project Details
This project took place in Manteno, Illinois in December 2025 and was completed over five days. When we first arrived, the staircase area felt very open but also somewhat unfinished because of the large blank wall extending from the first floor all the way to the upper level. The homeowner had tried different décor ideas but nothing seemed to fit the scale of the wall. Our team suggested creating a custom accent wall using wooden trim to form evenly spaced squares, which would add depth and architectural character without overwhelming the space.
To bring the idea to life, we carefully measured and mapped out the entire wall before installing anything. Each square had to be hand-drawn to ensure proper spacing, then the trim pieces were cut, installed, caulked, and painted.
Because the work was being done along a tall staircase, precision was critical so the pattern would stay perfectly aligned from the bottom of the wall to the top. The carpentry and painting came together to create a clean, structured design that makes the entryway feel more finished and visually engaging.
One of the biggest challenges was working along the staircase with a ceiling height of about 20 feet. Every piece of trim had to be installed while navigating the stair angles and maintaining consistent spacing across the entire wall. It required patience, steady craftsmanship, and close attention to detail from start to finish.
In the end, the once empty stairwell wall became a beautiful focal point that adds personality and dimension to the home the moment you walk in.
